Rome awards honorary citizenship to Dalai Lama
ROME (AP): The Dalai Lama is now an honorary citizen of Rome.
The Tibetan spiritual leader received the honor during a ceremony on Monday and vowed to pursue nonviolent action ``until death.''
Rome Mayor Gianni Alemanno pledged his support for the leaders' struggle to seek greater autonomy for Tibet. Alemanno presented the Dalai Lama with a small statue of the she-wolf, a symbol of Rome.
The Dalai Lama has resumed his busy schedule of international travel to teach Buddhism and highlight the Tibetan struggle after a number of health problems in recent months.
He is scheduled to be in Venice on Tuesday to receive the city's honorary citizenship.
