GY : Ok deal!

ROMANIA'S Minister of Foreign Affairs Teodor Baconschi assured Foreign Minister George Yeo that Romania was pursuing the full legal course. He added that justice would be done in the hit and run case involving diplomat Silviu Ionescu, 50. Both ministers chatted while waiting for their audience with His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI at St Peter's Square on Wednesday.

Minister Yeo expressed the anguish which Singaporeans felt on the case. Minister Baconschi informed Minister Yeo that the matter was being given the highest attention by the Romanian authorities. Dr Ionescu, Romania's charge d'affaires, made headlines as the car driver involved in Dec 15's double hit-and-run accidents that killed one and injured two others along Bukit Panjang Road.

His diplomatic posting here ended on Jan 5, when he was removed from his post by his country. He had returned to Romania three days after the accidents. An MFA spokesman said he hoped that Romania, which had 'acted entirely properly so far', will send its officials here soon to gather evidence for their case against the diplomat back home.
