Robbery in broad daylight
KUALA LUMPUR: Three men armed with pistols robbed a security van of RM300,000 in a brazen evening heist in full view of bystanders in Taman Segar, Cheras.
The incident occurred at 6.10pm yesterday when the security van stopped at Jalan Manis 3, near the Cheras Leisure Mall.
One of the three security guards had alighted the vehicle to collect money from a telecommunications outlet.
Three men, donning dark blue uniforms similar to those worn by security guards, were seen walking towards the security van, said City deputy CID chief Asst Comm Khairi Ahrasa.
“Suddenly the suspects pulled out two pistols at the guards and ordered them to exit the van, or else they would shoot.
“Within moments the suspects drove off with the van. The security guards quickly alerted the police,” he said.
Policemen who combed the nearby area discovered the van parked in a back alley located about 120m away with the bag containing RM300,000 missing.
A pump gun and a pistol belonging to the security guards were found in the back of the van.
Three security guards had been detained for questioning.
The case is being investigated under Section 4 of the Firearm Act.
