PETALING JAYA - An automated teller machine (ATM) in a commercial building at Jalan PJS8, Sunway, here was set on fire by a group of thieves after they failed to break it open early yesterday.
It is understood that the thieves tried to use an oxy-acetylene torch to cut open the machine but only got through the first layer.
Two other ATMs at the premises -- one for cash deposit and the other for depositing cheques -- were untouched.
Petaling Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Arjuandi Mohamed said police were alerted about the incident at 4am.
Police are investigating the case for causing mischief with fire.
