BENTONG - An armed robber bludgeoned a Forestry Department employee to death with a shotgun during a pre-dawn robbery at his staff quarters in Jalan Tras near here.
Khairul Hazri Jamaludin, 31, succumbed to injuries on his head, neck and abdomen.
He died at the Bentong Hospital at about 7am yesterday.
OCPD Supt Abdul Aziz Salleh said the victim's 28-year-old wife claimed she was also assaulted on her head and raped by the suspect who was wearing a mask.
The suspect fled after taking some cash and jewellery, he added.
He said police were also investigating if the suspect resorted to raping the victim's wife after he was not happy with the loot.
Supt Abdul Aziz said the victim's wife rushed out to seek help to send her husband to the hospital after the suspect fled.
"We believe he had gained access into their house from the back entrance.
"They were sleeping in the living room before they were rudely awakened and attacked," he said.
Police, he said, were investigating if the same person had killed a senior citizen, aged 63, in Kampung Kemansur, Bentong in May.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, who is Bentong MP, visited the victim's wife at the Bentong Hospital yesterday.
