ALOR SETAR: Kedah police seized drugs believed to be syabu worth RM6.3mil in one of its biggest hauls.

State deputy police chief Senior Assist Comm Datuk Abdul Ghafar Rajab said 28 slabs of the drugs, weighing 28.8kg, were found in a car after a 14km chase along the North-South Expressway near Jitra.

He said a police highway patrol unit stopped a car travelling from Bukit Kayu Hitam to Jitra at KM22 of the expressway at about 11.30am on May 14.

The car was driven by a 47-year-old from Padang Lembu, Gurun,

“When the policemen asked him to open the car boot, he got into the car and sped off,” he said at a press conference here yesterday.

SAC Abdul Ghafar said the man abandoned the car at KM36.1 and escaped on foot.

He said the patrol unit team gave chase but failed to catch him.

The policemen checked the car boot and found two bags, each containing 14 slabs.

SAC Abdul Ghafar said police were looking for Lim Kek Kiea (pic), whose last-known address is Padang Lembu and Taman Ria Mesra in Gurun. He added that the case was being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

In Johor Baru, a guest relations officer who sold drugs to clients was arrested at Taman Sri Pulai in Kangkar Pulai.

Nusajaya OCPD Supt Noor Hashim Mohamad said 111 Ecstasy pills and 21 packets of transparent plastic filled with powder, believed to be Ketamine, were found at the 28-year-old's house.

“We believe that the suspect sold drugs without a middleman.

“We also found out that customers would actively seek her out at various outlets to purchase the drugs,” he told reporters at the Nusajaya police district headquarters yesterday.

Supt Noor Hashim said the drugs seized were worth about RM6,082.

He added that the suspect, who was single, lived with her mother.

She also tested positive for syabu but does not have a criminal record.

“We are still determining who supplied the drugs to her,” he said, adding that the woman had been remanded until May 21.

The case is being investigated under Section 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 12(2) of the same Act.
