RM500 reward for return of loot

JOHOR BARU: An Indonesian maid who fled a house in Taman Permas Jaya here with jewellery worth about RM10,000, also took grocery items with her, much to her employer's surprise.

Rashita Banu Mohamed Idris, 54, who found the maid's room empty on April Fool's Day, was shocked to discover packets of instant noddles, flour, salt, sugar, a 10kg packet of rice, condensed milk tins, sardine cans, dried prawns and squid, laundry softener, perfume, bar of soaps and other household items were also missing together with the jewellery.

Rashita who had employed the 31-year-old Indonesian, identified as Fitri Yahya, about a year ago, is baffled as to why the maid ran away.

Fitri wrote a short note, behind a telephone bill, seeking an apology, claiming that she had to return to her hometown immediately but did not offer any explanation.

"Initially, I thought she had only taken the grocery items, and also packed the leftovers from the previous night's dinner.

"However, I realised Fitri had put a lot of thought planning her escape when I noticed that my daughter-in-law's jewellery were also stolen.

"I think she took the opportunity to steal from us, as we were away at Sultanah Aminah Hospital tending to my newborn granddaughter, and also my daughter-in-law."

Rashita lodged a police report at the Permas Jaya police station here.

Rashita, who believed her maid had yet to leave the country, was offering a RM500 reward for the return of the jewellery which consisted of earrings, rings, a chain and a nose stud.
