Ris Low got A1 for English 'O' Level

Did Ris Low really score A1 for her English 'O' Levels and Communications? A STOMPer spotted this post on her Facebook page and wondered if she was telling the truth.

The 19-year-old winner of the Miss Singapore World 2009 beauty pageant was slammed by Singaporeans recently for her poor language skills, following a RazorTV interview where she mispronounced a number of common words such as red ('rad') and bikini ('bigini').

Her poor diction and pronunciation has sparked off fierce debate on her suitability to represent Singapore in international beauty pageants. Criticism has also been levelled at how the English language is taught in schools here since the incident.

Here's what the STOMPer wrote in an email today (Sep 28):

"I have attached a screenshot of Ris Low's Facebook 'shout out'.

"In a post by Ris Low on Sep 4 she said:

"'YA I SUCK IN ENGLISH AND I GOT A1 FOR MY ENGLISH O LEVEL AND A1 FOR MY COMMUNICATIONS. YES, I SUCK IN MY LANGUAGES. =)'

"Is this true? Or are the papers right? It was reported that this girl got a B3 for her English 'O' Levels."
