KUALA LUMPUR: Police have crippled a gang believed to have carried out over 13 robberies with the arrest of four people.
City police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohmad Salleh said the men, aged between 26 and 30, were apprehended in Taman Maluri Cheras at about 4.30pm on Sept 7.
Police seized an air gun and a box of ball bearing from the suspects.
“They led police to a house in Pandan Indah and another in Kuala Kelawang, Negeri Sembilan where we seized two more air guns,” he said. “Police also seized cars, machetes, swords and jewellery,” he said at the city police headquarters.
DCP Mohmad said police believed they had solved six robbery cases in Kuala Lumpur and seven in Selangor with the arrests.
He said the suspects had been remanded until Sept 17 to facilitate investigations while two others were being hunted.
In an unrelated case, police arrested four Pakistanis aged between 22 and 28 for their involvement in a kidnapping case in Simpang Taiping on Sept 6.
DCP Mohmad said a 20-year-old Pakistan man, who had just arrived in Malaysia on Aug 25, was cheated by his friend who said he could provide a job for him.
The victim was then brought to Taiping, where he was kidnapped by the friend and three others on Aug 29. The kidnappers demanded a RM26,000 ransom from his family in Pakistan.
“The family paid the ransom in Pakistan and his brother later lodged a police report.
“The suspects then demanded RM67,000 to release the victim after receiving the RM26,000,” he said.
Police conducted an operation and arrested the four suspects and rescued the victim.
