SINGAPORE: A retiree got himself into a pickle for hitting his maid over pickles!
Liew Joo Seng was sentenced on Tuesday to three weeks' jail for punching his maid's face after she left a jar of pickles open.
The 71 year old pleaded guilty to abusing 25-year-old Biak Dim Par, a Myanmar national.
Another similar charge was taken into consideration.
The incident happened on October 31 last year at a flat in Rivervale Drive.
The retiree got upset after finding the jar opened and the pickles gone stale.
He then went to look for Biak, who was doing household chores in the storeroom.
Liew shouted at Biak and punched her face four times.
He was pulled away by his daughter's friend, who was staying at the flat then.
Liew's daughter later brought the maid to the police to file a report.
A medical report revealed that Biak suffered a bruise over her left eyebrow.
For voluntarily causing hurt, Liew could have been jailed up to two years and fined S$5,000.
