Retired ITE lecturer created another genius contraption: A hoverboard wheelchair

Genius retired Institute of Technical Education (ITE) lecturer, Tan Ban Ho, is the creator of the two-seater e-wheelchair.

The 73-year-old first bought a S$600 unicycle in September 2016 to aid in his outings with his wife, who is wheelchair-bound.

Riding the unicycle was a substitute for walking.

However, in slightly over a year after getting his unicycle, Tan continued to improvise on his prototype to come up with a fully controllable two-seater e-wheelchair.

It turns out, Tan, who has knowledge of electronics, was not done.

He has also recently unveiled a hoverboard wheelchair that he put together by himself.

Have to pay $50 to LTA & apply for license. Gee!, we have kids on scooter boards, hoover boards, roller skates, motorised skates, then we have adults on skates, hover boards, ebike, bicycles now we have Wheel Chair hoover board...

At what speed does the wheel chair hoover board run? 1-2 km/hr...what a useless invention..

I had conceived a similar idea awaiting to implement to mount hover-board BEHIND wheel chair so that i can stand on it to push my elder family member. The existing wheel chair is already few years old, in poor condition, so pending a change 1st.

my uncle say what is the difference of the normal e-wheelchair with a gear shift and hoverboard wheelchair ? both also moves and take up same amount of space, somemore hoverboard need to have the feet lock there. He say waste time inventing something worse than currently have. He say why the lecturer so stupid.

There is nothing too significant to call it any invention unless reporters are desperate for such stories.

This is a practical modification or improvement. At the most can call it automation idea.
