Renew passports early
By Kimberly Spykerman
WITH this year's September holidays coinciding with Hari Raya Puasa, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) are expecting a 50 per cent increase in the number of passport applications during that time - averaging about 2,500 people a day.
To ease waiting times, the ICA is urging people to apply for their passports early. Many countries require a passport to be valid for at least six months as part of the entry requirements.
Besides going to the counter at the ICA Building, Singaporeans can complete and submit an electronic application through ICA's website at www.ica.gov.sg. A scanned photo must also be submitted online.
They may also drop a completed application form in the deposit boxes at the ICA building, or mail it to the Passport Section at the ICA Building at 10, Kallang Road, #08-00, Singapore 208718.
Those who submit their applications online, by post or deposit box will be entitled to a rebate - paying a $70 fee rather than the usual $80.
The ICA also encourages Singaporeans to make an appointment online via the ICA website to collect their passports, large crowds can make collection exceed more than three hours.
