SINGAPORE - Remisier Foo Siong Lim, 33, was fined $5,000 on Tuesday for hitting a fellow pub patron Mr Chia Ting Hock in the face with a beer mug.
He reportedly did so because he was upset at the 25-year-old student's repeated insults regarding his Taiwanese fiance, Ms Chen Kuan Fei, 32.
The court heard that at about 10.30pm on July 28, Mr Chia and his girlfriend entered the Acid Bar in Emerald Hill. As the place was crowded, the shared a table with Mr Foo and Ms Chen.
The two couples soon struck up a conversation. While the initial vibe was friendly, the atmosphere turned uncomfortable when Mr Chia began to repeatedly describe Taiwanese women as "wild and easy".
Mr Foo tried to change the subject to no avail. When his fiance left to go to the restroom, Mr Chia asked Foo which karaoke lounge she was from.
This resulted in the financial data planner hitting Chia's face with the beer mug, inflicting him with cuts and bruises.
Doctors said Chia may have permanent scarring from the injuries.
