The post-mortem however, revealed discrepancies on the wounds on her neck and police forensic teams revisited the apartment on Sunday.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Arjunaidi Mohamed said police in Segamat arrested a close relative of Syaleza after her funeral on Sunday night.

“The post-mortem results showed strangulation marks on her neck.

“The marks were not completely consistent with injuries that would be sustained during a hanging,” he said, adding that case was now being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

ACP Arjunaidi said the relative has been remanded till Aug 5 to facilitate further investigations.

Syaleza was an administrative executive at local television station TV9 for more than six years.

Her friend and colleague, Zulkifli Che Sab, 52, said he was shocked when he heard of Syaleza's death.

“She was a kind, humble and friendly person and was liked by everyone in the office.

“I never expected something like this to happen to her,” he said adding that she had never spoken about any family problems in the past.

ACP Arjunaidi said police have yet to establish the motive for the murder and appealed to anyone with information on the case to contact the Selangor police hotline at 03-2052 9999 or the nearest police station.
