PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) - The man who was shot and killed at a Phoenix park on Thursday has been identified.
Phoenix police said late Friday night, the victim was 24-year-old Abdul Karim Bin Abdul Jalil. His family spoke with Arizona’s Family shortly after the shooting and said he was a father and a refugee from Malaysia.
The shooting happened just before 4:30 p.m. at Mariposa Park, which is at 33rd and Morten avenues, just south of Northern Avenue. Family members say Jalil was playing soccer with some other people when the ball hit a car. He got into an argument with a man. The suspect then went to the car, grabbed a gun and started firing at the soccer players. Jalil and another man were hit. Jalil died at the scene. The other victim was taken to the hospital but should survive.
Jalil’s family said they didn’t know the shooter. No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS or 480-TESTIGO and provide an anonymous tip. Rewards will be paid for information leading to an arrest in this case.
