<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->DESPITE repeated pleas to the residents' committees (RC) and town councils to solve this nightmare, I have not received any.
It began nine months ago with the start of dance classes, accompanied by blaring noise on week nights and Saturday mornings.
My complaints to the RCs and town councils fell on deaf ears.
The dance classes are conducted in an enclosed area in Ang Mo Kio, and there are many bedrooms in the surrounding HDB flats facing it.
The classes and noise pollution start about 7.30pm every day and end only about 10.30pm. On Saturdays, they start from 8am. Each class lasts for about three hours. With amplifiers on full blast, especially on Saturday mornings, it is next to impossible to get any decent rest.
To make matters worse, recently, another class began on Sunday mornings.
All these classes are in addition to other daily activities held in this area, such as football games in the void decks. The fact is, there are other venues close by - a community centre and two newly renovated open areas - where community gatherings are held occasionally.
According to the RC and town councils, these classes can be conducted as long as they start and end at stipulated times, never mind the noisy nuisance which upsets the quiet and tranquility of the neighbourhood.
Surely holding dance classes throughout the week is unreasonable, especially during the early weekend mornings.
I am not against such dance classes, but there should be some consideration for the residents' need for rest. In this highly dense and fast-paced city state, the only place where I can have some decent rest and peaceful sleep is my own HDB home.
Is that too much to ask for?
