Council denies firing worker over NSP link

Esmaco Township Management, which manages Jurong Town Council, denied firing an employee over dismissing an employee over her being spotted selling merchandise at an NSP rally. -- ST PHOTO: LAU FOOK KONG

A SUPPORTER of opposition National Solidarity Party (NSP) is claiming she was wrongfully dismissed by her company, which manages the Jurong Town Council.
Ms Geraldine Soh, 25, has accused Esmaco Township Management of asking her to go because of her political affiliation.
But Esmaco said yesterday she was asked to leave on Monday because her performance had not been up to scratch for several months. As a customer service officer, she had to relay residents' calls to the relevant staff and contractors.
Town council general manager Ho Thian Poh said she had displayed 'weaknesses in attending to calls from residents, and following up on calls'.
He denied her claim that her dismissal was linked to a colleague spotting her selling NSP merchandise at the party's rally in Jurong West Stadium on May 1.
She told The Straits Times that she was supporting her boyfriend Joel Kong, 26, a legal executive and NSP member who had volunteered to help candidate Steve Chia, who was contesting single-seat Pioneer.

Another serious censorship of news reporting. Why the report did not include vital information that Mr Ho Thian Poh is a PAP member and its Branch Secretary of Bukit Batok East? Also that Jurong Town Council gave time off for staff to attend PAP rallies? Isn't it utterly deplorable that the media resorted to such irresponsible reporting to hide the truth and to make its PAP masters look good again? Singaporeans should seriously think twice before approaching the PAP propaganda mouthpieces which will only to suit the PAP’s partisan interests. Looks like George Yeo's departure remarks have again fallen to deaf ears and not sink into the soul of the Party yet. More GRC and SMC to fall come 2016. That will be the only change to come.

SO WE CAN SEE....if not for this intimidation, threats, fear et....the ACTUAL support for PAP is actually much less. How many who voted for the PAP have had done so unwillingly because they are afraid they will lose their rice bowl - or worse other forms of penalty ? This town council episode clearly reflects the way of life we are living. And the PAP Government has a false sense of support and victory. I hope the Government, in particular the Ministry of Labour, will look into the case and give the world an explanation.

Was she reprimanded for bad performance prior to election? How many times was she reprimanded? Any warning letter given to her? Any counselling and how many times given to her? Was sufficient and reasonable time given to her to improve her work? What are her mistakes?

In developed countries, she can sue for compensation for sure. I still think she can sue for compensation, distress and unfair dismissal. STOP our employers from bullying!!!

Unfortunately Singapore has not reached the real level of "developed country" maturity... just look at how they treat the opposition and Singaporean who voted the opposition.

Even if she could fight her case for unfair dismissal, she has to make report to MOM, whose "master" is PAP too. Sigh!

Usually when a staff is being counselled, the minutes will be taken down and a letter of undertaking will be signed by both parties to ensure improvement in her work. If Geraldine can prove that there was no such meeting or counselling session and no undertaking signed, then she has a case against the JTC.

Society must mature, not bias while in public service. It is evil, wrongful to assume and merge Party interest and mess it up with publicly collected money to service the citizen. The Party must make effort to educate it party members for the long term good of a nation.

Society must mature, not bias while in public service. It is evil, wrongful to assume and merge Party interest and mess it up with publicly collected money to service the citizen. The Party must make effort to educate it party members for the long term good of a nation.

This can be a sensitive matter; before we have any concrete evidences, we should not jump into conclusion so quickly. It may be due to poor performance, it can be due her political affiliation.Anyway, this case is disadvantage to Ms. Soh since it is an individual against a company. How can she prove that her performance is good, think about it, this is not easy. The company has many things to play with to show that her performance is bad. Who is willing to dig deeper for one individual?Bad performance does not lead to dismissal, this is clear if we look at Tamasek Holding. Other good examples are: a minister who cannot prevent the escape of a crippled prisoner and another minister who over-spent 3 times the allocated budget. All these people quoted above remains intact, and enjoy many months of bonus.

The one firing her is a member of the PAP. Check out his details. The right way is to give warning letters in black and white to show that someone is not doing a job. Then you will have a clear proof to show you did not fire anyone for any personal grudges you have with her. In this case, it does seem to have clear indication that the boss Mr Ho, as members of PAP, is guilty. He also asked his people to vote for PAP. This chap clearly does not draw a line between professional work and politics. He should be fired instead. PAP will only lose more goodwill and votes by this kind of scumbags.

Tan Kin Lian, the former CEO of NTUC Income has also terminated a 55 year old employee from NTUC Income, using the pretext of poor performance. He was then a PAP man. She was a long serving (amost 30 years service) with NTUC parent body. She a dedicated Head IRO who always stood up for worker's rights. The MOM and Mdm Halimah ignored her complaints of harrassment and allowed Tan Kin Lian his egoist misdeed. Can we expect MOM and Mdm Halimah to act fairly..?

Today, Tan Kin Lian is on the opposition side and working the ground hopefuly to get opposition support to stand for the post of President of Singapore. What a shame ... beware of turn-coats. Till today --- No Justice. Tan Kin Lian may want to answer to this.

The KARMA did play its part. After the termination of the long serving NTUC employee, Tan Kin Lian and his team, themselves are no longer with NTUC Income. But the harm done to the employee who had untill then been appraised for her excellent performance have had her career destroyed.

The wealth of NTUC Income was built by the hardworking NTUC Unions and the Singaporean workers. Tan Kin Lian was only a salaried manager. he cannot alone claim the success of NTUC Income. The Ministry of Manpower, Mdm Halimah must explain why the complaints of harssment at the hands of the Management were not acted on and allow Tan Kin lian to use false allegation of poor performance to terminating a dedicated Unionist.

The PAP and opposition parties must not get swayed by Tan Kin Lian own personal glorification. The Singaporean Voters must get to know more about TKL and ensure we elect only the best candidates in search for our next President of Singapore. My vote goes for Mr Tan Cheng Bok ... may he agree to stand.

Poor performance like failing to relay calls, etc, can be easily proved by the company. So I'm sure they will not say such things if it isn't so. This girl is trying to get compensation from the company is it? I say, let the company sue her instead for defamation.

If Tan Kin Lian is so concerned for the people of S'pore he would have joined the opposition.

Instead he said once in an interview with St that he dosen't mind standing for presidency.

The president as we all know have no clout and is only a rubber stamp. There is also a token 4 million bucks to go with it.

Tan Kin Lian in my opinion is looking for a pay cheque.

So fellow S'poreans please discern when the presidential elections come around.

Everyone has different aspirations. Have you spoken to him personally? If not, what makes you think so and make sure a public comments? Would your colleagues be justified on what you intend to do by virutal of the fact that they know you professional and therefore can claim to know your personal aspirations?
