Rat falls out of diner’s pants at Serangoon coffee shop, owner claims it came from outside

A diner’s afternoon tea at a Serangoon coffee shop was rudely interrupted when a rat fell out of his pants.
The incident happened around 2pm last Saturday (19 Oct) at a coffee shop located at Block 3 Lorong Lew Lian.
According to Shin Min Daily News, Mr Liang (surname transliterated from Chinese) was dining alone when he suddenly felt something crawling up his trousers.
Mr Liang leapt up in shock, shaking his legs and tugging at his trousers.
To his horror, a rat fell out, prompting him to quickly step on its tail to keep it in place.
Mr Liang, describing himself as “scared and nervous”, immediately sought an explanation from the coffee shop staff.
An older female employee subsequently picked up the rat using tissue paper and threw it away.
Coffee shop owner says rat likely came from outside
As he had to rush off due to work commitments, Mr Liang said he was unable to wait for a detailed explanation from the coffee shop.He added that he had reported the incident to the authorities.
The coffee shop owner, speaking to Shin Min Daily News, suggested that the rat may have entered from nearby HDB blocks or through holes outside the premises.
He alleged that the coffee shop conducts regular disinfection and pest control.
Thus, he added, it’s unlikely that the rat originated from the establishment itself.
