The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday arrested a person from the Vikas Bhavan in connection to smuggling explosives in large quantities. The arrested individual has been identified as Mir Mohammad Nuruzzama who was working as a software engineer at Vikas Bhavan.

It is alleged that he has smuggled thousands of gelatin sticks and ammonium nitrate bags in connivance with the police. NIA also arrested another person named Mehrajuddin earlier in the incident. As per NIA sources, the arrested Nooruzzaman was supplying explosives in collaboration with the police.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday arrested a person from the Vikas Bhavan in connection to smuggling explosives in large quantities. The arrested individual has been identified as Mir Mohammad Nuruzzama who was working as a software engineer at Vikas Bhavan.
It is alleged that he has smuggled thousands of gelatin sticks and ammonium nitrate bags in connivance with the police. NIA also arrested another person named Mehrajuddin earlier in the incident. As per NIA sources, the arrested Nooruzzaman was supplying explosives in collaboration with the police.


The police officials arrested Mohammadbazar in Birbhum following the recovery of 81,000 gelatin sticks and 27,000 kg of ammonium nitrate. During police interrogation, the accused gave some crucial information which led the officials to conduct searches in Raniganj and Rajarhat.
According to NIA sources, almost all the stone quarries in Birbhum’s Mohammadbazar are run with stolen explosives. The NIA officials went to Nuruzzaman’s New Town flat on Friday but could not find him.
One of the arrested individuals, Nuruzzama was involved in the supply of explosives in connivance with the local police. It must also be noted that almost all the stone quarries in Birbhum’s Mohammadbazar were run with stolen explosives.
NIA officials reached Nuruzzama’s New Town flat on Friday but were unable to find him. However, he was later arrested by the investigation officials arrested him from the Vikas Bhavan.
Noorruzama was working as a software engineer in a government project under the National Informatics Center located at Vikas Bhawan to maintain a cover on his unlawful activities. The wife of the accused is said to be a professor who teaches at Gauteng University.
NIA is now looking for the places where he made the delivery of the explosives. They are also probing his connection with the Maoists or extremist organisation. The arrest also raised questions regarding the security of the workers working at Vigyan Bhavan.
