I really hope the SDP will pin VV to the wall with questions about YOG expenditure in their rally speech.

Elections Department Clarifies SDP's Objection Against PAP Candidate

SINGAPORE, April 27 (Bernama) -- The Singapore Democratic Party raised an objection that Sim Ann, one of the People's Action Party candidates for Holland-Bukit Timah Group Representation Contituencies (GRC), was technically still in the civil service.

As a result, SDP said the candidate should be disqualified from standing as a candidate in the general election.

In response, Singapore's Election Department said any objection to a nomination paper was permitted only if it fell within one of the grounds specified in Section 30 of the Parliamentary Elections Act.

In a statement, the department said objections might be made on the grounds, amongst others, that it was apparent from the contents of the nomination paper that the candidate was not capable of being elected a member of parliament.

"A civil servant is disqualified. Sim Ann stated 'unemployed' in the nomination paper. It was not apparent from the nomination paper that Sim Ann is still in the civil service.

"Hence, the objection was disallowed," the elections authority said, adding that the Public Service Division had confirmed that Sim Ann was no longer in the civil service.
