SINGAPORE – Four suspected drug traffickers arrested on Jan 15 in a hotel room in Geylang were found with about 2kg of heroin and almost 160g of cannabis, among other drugs.

Three men and a woman were nabbed in the raid in Lorong 4 Geylang, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said on Jan 17. Some 2,047g of heroin, 1,081g of Ice (methamphetamine), 158g of cannabis, 98g of Ecstasy, 339 Erimin-5 tablets, three bottles of methadone and $21,446.40 in cash were recovered from the room, along with a karambit knife.

CNB officers then escorted one of the men to his car nearby and found about 130g of heroin and 26g of Ice, as well as several other weapons.

Anyone found guilty of trafficking more than 15g of pure heroin, 250g of Ice or 500g of cannabis may face the mandatory death penalty.

The four were among 116 suspected drug offenders arrested in an islandwide operation from Jan 6 to 16. The youngest was a 14-year-old student nabbed for suspected drug abuse.

A total of 2.9kg of heroin, 1.2kg of Ice, 643g of ketamine, 262g of Ecstasy, 218g of cannabis, 419 Erimin-5 tablets, five bottles of methadone and a small amount of new psychoactive substances were seized.

The seized drugs have an estimated street value of more than $550,000.

The areas covered included Ang Mo Kio, Bedok Reservoir, Bukit Batok, Bishan, Geylang, Havelock, MacPherson, Redhill and Tampines.

In another raid during this period, an 18-year-old student was arrested on Jan 7 in Bukit Batok for suspected drug trafficking.

CNB officers saw him throwing things out of the kitchen window of a residential unit in Bukit Batok Street 52, and had to force their way in after he refused to let them in. Following his arrest, the teen was led to the ground floor, where CNB officers recovered a packet containing about 500g of ketamine.

Separately, a 60-year-old man – a suspected drug trafficker – was arrested on Jan 14 in a residential unit in Circuit Road. CNB officers found 536g of heroin and a total of $40,466.20 in cash there.

CNB cannot interrogate them too harshly or else they might commit suicide and their fathers will write in to Sham to complain again….
