Project manager fined over fatal traffic accident
By Elena Chong
A MOTORIST who hit a motorcyclist and caused his death at a signalised cross junction was fined $8,000 and banned from driving for six years on Tuesday.
Chia Choon Kiang, 31, a project manager, admitted to causing the death of Ganesan K. Revi Chandran, 19, through his negligence along Jalan Bahar, Jurong, at about 12.45am on Aug 25, 2009.
He had failed to keep a proper lookout when he rammed into the teen's bike which had stopped at the stop line to comply with the traffic red light signal.
Ganesan died of his injuries about 11/2 hours later while the pillion, Mr Brendon Kok Chun Kai, then 18, was warded for six days for a fracture.
A second charge of grievously hurting the pillion was considered during his sentencing.
He could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined.
