Hawkers interviewed by the media revealed that the committee did not call for a spring cleaning until after the outbreak and complaints about the presence of rats at the premises fell on deaf ears.
The media claimed that the management committee had declined to be interviewed and no news was heard about them subsequently except that one of its member is a Mr Kwok Kim Poh.
According to a reader who posted on our blog, the temporary market is set up with funds from the hawkers themselves.
However, in a banner put up outside the Geylang Serai market as shown below, it was stated clearly that it is a “Project by Kampong Ubi Citizens Consultative Committee”:
