A school bus driver who caused the death of a construction worker at a signalised cross-junction in Bedok a year ago was fined $5,000 and banned from driving for three years on Tuesday.
Ho Kian Guan, 54, who no longer drives a bus, admitted to causing the death of Mr Tharajarawat Chan by failing to keep a proper lookout before making a right turn at the junction of Bedok North Avenue 1 by Bedok North Road on Jan 13 last year.
A district court heard that Ho, together with his employer who was seated on the left of the bus, was driving to pick up students to send them to school when he failed to see the 47-year-old victim while making a right turn into Bedok North Road from Bedok North Avenue 1.
He had stopped at the right turning pocket, and after taking a quick glance at the pedestrian crossing, proceeded to make a right turn before the green turning arrow appeared.
