A CHINA national was charged in court on Wednesday with causing the death of three passengers and injuring 13 others along Pan-Island Expressway in June 2010.
Yang Chao, 22, was driving a lorry along the expressway towards Changi Airport when he allegedly caused the deaths of Mr Li Jia Jun, 40, Mr Li Xian Long, 45, and Mr Qiu Min Jun, 46, by doing a rash act.
The charge states that he failed to keep a proper lookout and travelled into the chevron while trying to change lanes to the left to exit into Thomson Road, when the vehicle hit the centre-divider island and flipped to the left on June 22.
He is said to have caused grievous hurt to two passengers and hurt to 11 other construction workers who were seated at the back of the vehicle. The victims, all Chinese nationals, are in their 30s and 40s.
Yang also faces a fourth charge of conveying more than the maximum passenger load.
A pre-trial conference has been set on Aug 15. He was represented by Mr Tan Cheng Kiong.
