Others take 1 or 2 but this PRC man runs off with 200 light sticks

STOMPer AngleEyes88 says this Chinese national grabbed and ran off with what looked like 200 light sticks that were placed along Orchard Road for decoration.

She elaborates:

"I took my two daughters to see the Christmas light-up at Orchard Road.

"I noticed a commotion as about 500 people were crowding around what appeared to be a chain of lightsticks created by SingTel for the ZoukOut party.

"These sticks were being neatly rolled out, but upon closer inspection, I realised many of the lightsticks were being taken as they were being laid!

"It was as though a mob of people were stalking the people laying the glowsticks.

"It was nice to see that people were excited, with many making away with 1 or 2 light sticks to keep.

"But this PRC man actually took a whole handful of about 200 lightsticks for himself?

"Is this really necessary?

"Doesn't he know that lightsticks stop glowing after 2 hours?

"1 is OK but 200? Come on."

when i first came to Singapore i went to a buffet lunch at a local restaurant thinking it would be a good way to try a little sampling of many different local dishes. but the locals had another idea; they would clean out all the good dishes as soon as they were laid out leaving just rice and some vegetables for anyone else. one local guy took an entire plate of crab legs to his table for him and his mom to eat. this was not a one off situation as most of you are aware of and this was a local not a prc (it was 1993 and i could tell from the way he talked and dressed). so is this prc behaviour you are talking about in your post or is it Chinese behaviour?

if you are having lunch by yourself and wish to eat Asian food a buffet is a good place to go to have more than one simple dish - doesn't mean you are going stuff your face just have more variety. buffets lunches at Chinese restaurant are very common and popular in Canada and there are a lot of Chinese and Chinese restaurant in Canada but people there are not pigs trying to eat 20 crab legs or 50 prawns in one sitting. so my comment in original post saying this is not prc but Chinese behaviour i should rephrase i didn't mean all Chinese as those in Canada don't act like that and i never saw it in Taiwan or Thailand either - it seems to be something about Chinese in Singapore. i am sure all of us remember the long lines formed from midnight before store openings to get free something the store is giving away. anything free must have even if it is junk you wont use - that shows the mentality in Singapore.
