Haidilao Trainee Manager’s S$10K Salary: “Extensive Working Hours” Among Factors For Salary, Which Is “An Exception”, Says HDL
From viral dances to face-changingperformances, Haidilao has made headlines for a plethora of reasons.

Now, it seems that their staff’s generous pay cheque is in the spotlight.

A Haidilao trainee manager, Ronghui, from the Plaza Singapura branch recently revealed that he earns a whopping S$10K a month. In the now-viral video, Ronghui was interviewed by a Chinese content creator about his daily life as a Haidilao employee.

What stood out the most in the video, was his monthly salary of S$10,000.

When 8days.sg checked with Haidilao Singapore, the company clarified that “this figure is an exception” and that “this case should not be seen as representative of the average income”.

A quick check on a job portal revealed that the salary of a Haidilao manager starts from S$4,244 while a management trainee's pay starts from S$3,398 a month.

Haidilao Singapore further explained that the pay package is “influenced by a unique combination of factors, including store location, specialised role, and extensive working hours”, and that their salary structure was designed to “reflect these variables”.

We've reached out to HDL for further clarification on “extensive working hours” entail.

From the flurry of comments that poured in in the now-viral post, it seems that Ronghui has at least one day off per week - one comment noted that he usually takes Wednesdays off, though it is unclear if it is still the case.

Ronghui, who moved to Singapore from Fujian, China 20 years ago and is now a citizen, has worked at Haidilao Plaza Singapura for six years. He was promoted to trainee store manager over the years, and now reports to a store manager there.

Unsurprisingly, all this caused quite a stir online, with netizens questioning how a trainee manager’s pay could be so high.

“It’s time for me to send my CV in,” read a comment while another asked, “Is this the industry standard now?”

Some netizens were less concerned about salary, and were more fixated on Ronghui’s looks. They complimented him as “decent looking” while praising him for being so well-spoken in the video.

Of course, there were many asking if he was still single as well and if he can serve them when they visit the Plaza Singapura outlet.

Just leave them alone.
They hire all their own people.
They can pay them whatever amount they feel like.
Sinkies just stfu and stop patronising it is more appropriate

Hdl is a tiong company that doesn’t have a tiong management culture
Which is why they are so successful

Definitely this must be an insider pulling strings. Now he earns S$10k whilst also reporting to his store manager who earns much less than him. How cynical can this get? His store manager should start to look for a new job as he risks being replaced soon.

I think they only asked the servers to perform the Tik tok dance whereas some other tiong established asked them to perform the kok kok kway chicken dance.

If a manager on average earns $4,244, won’t this cause a riot with all branch managers? Lol

It’s like you as a manager earning less than an intern.

I'm surprised hdl allowed him to disclose his salary.
This will create an imbalance mind among the leestoran staffs..
A atb told me her salary in hdl $1800 as waitress and she work like a dog with extended hours then can reach $2500.

A similar kind of Tik tok beedio interviewing local auntie with K family root owning a K leestoran says she make sgd10-20k.
So this hdl bloke is better off being an employee.

F&B usually starts $1800 with 12 hours per day, 2days off in a month. Likely very low basic but high incentives for high sales. The gross amount includes service charge 10% & shift allowance.
Travel agents has low pay too but the mandatory tips from tourist become their commission. Hence I will go free & Easy.

For this bloke maybe he is some sort of hdl boss leelated. Or else wait long long 10k per mth even he work 12hrs for 7 days.
Else means he talked cock.

Another disgusting publicity stunt by an equally disgusting establishment. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Actually what is the difference of eating at hdl vs eating at those coffees shops buffet style?
Can you lao something different from hdl paying premium price ?

Not yet. Golden Mile Thien Kee Steamboat Hainanese Restaurant
My family ate at Golden Mile Thien Kee Steamboat Hainanese Restaurant several times, many years ago. I recall they also serve chicken rice together with the steamboat. I like having hotpot dinners with my family and guests as we buy only the best ingredients and boil our own soup stock for a fraction of the cost of eating out.

Of course can't beat home cookef soup & quality. But compared to haidilao, will go to this outlet anytime.
