President’s Star Charity 2011 raises a record-breaking $6.44mil

It was a grand farewell of sorts for President S R Nathan last night as he preceded over his last President's Star Charity show. The show also raked in the highest-ever amount of donations, netting in a total of S$6.44mil and breaking a previous S$6mil set in 2009.

Headlined by song and dance acts, the night kicked off with a soulful performance of 'When You Believe' by 15-year-old singing sensation Julie Abueva and a choir of kids. The next highlight was the mass ballroom dancing feat achieved by 10 local artistes (Pierre Png, Belinda Lee, Adam Chen, Patricia Mok, Alaric Tay, Adeline Lim and more), as they waltz across the stage to the vocals of Huang Wen Yong, Kym Ng and Xiang Yun.

While everyone in the group had six days of rehearsals, Belinda had only three days to perfect her dance routine as the actress was down with tonsillitis two weeks prior to the charity show.

In an interview with xinmsn, Belinda shared that she is still weak and recovering from her illness. She said, "The group was really helpful, supportive and loving! Plus I kept going through the steps with the music on my own."

After the group dancing performance, a slew of musical treats followed. First up was Sylvia Ratonel's explosive and electrifying performance with all-female band EVE, an Indian-western fusion medley by Flame of the Forest, Singapore Idol Sezairi Sezali with his band Juxtapose and visually-handicapped beneficiary Mohd Zahier, and Singapore Idol alumni Hady Mirza and Taufik Batisah.

Amusement last night came in the form of a medley performance by Gurmit Singh, Hossan Leong, Sheikh Haikel and Daren Tan as the quartet crooned, strummed and played their way into the hearts of audiences with 35 songs that shared the same four chords.

With only eight hours of practice, stitching their medley performance together with their onstage bantering and presenting it in the most au naturel way, was their biggest challenge, according to Hossan.

The night's performances concluded with American Idol contestant Chris Medina and Italian teenage tenor trio Il Volo.

Touching hearts everywhere with his charismatic vocals, Chris performed 'What are Words' from his music single and 'Fix You'.

"I feel so privileged to be a part of something like this. And the fact that I can make any kind of difference, help, or inspire people to pick up their phones today and call, it's just wonderful," the 28-year-old singer-songwriter quipped in a backstage interview.

80% donation come from company which already agree before start. Actual donation only about $1million from public like phone call.
Since 80% already confirm why need to spend so much money for the program bring oversea star/actor.......which cost more than $1million for air flight, accommodation,transport............................ is wasting public donation money,

What is so sick about Singapore is everything is just so well co-ordinated to make a crook like like a god. End of the day, how much goes into the till of charity organisations only true god will know. Talking about so many president charity show within a year is a joke, which goes to show they have not actually reached the donation target and charity organisations were screaming dry. $6.4mil after all the hoo har and the $4.8mil overpaid president didn't know what shame means to him.

Most major events held in Singapore is a set up to make it look good. Everything they did always looks good in SPH newspapers only.

Eveything they do always want to be international standard, world first and world best and when the Supreme Leader LKY can says Singaporeans are daft and less hardworking so we wonder how PAP can achieved these when they have daft and less hardworking ciitzens that keep voting them. Hummm - dodgy eh!
