Porsche 918 Spyder

Stunning 918 Spyder was first shown at the Geneva motor show in March.

Like Porsche's previous supercar, the 205mph Carrera GT, the Spyder is a strict two-seater.

No prices have been announced but rumours suggest the Spyder will cost more than £400,000 when it goes on sale.

918 is technology laden. It includes a paddle shift gearbox and controls to switch between four driving modes: Eco, Hybrid, Sport and Race.

Porsche's 'eco' range now includes (clockwise from left) the 911 GT3 R Hybrid race car, Cayenne Hybrid and 918 Spyder.

In 'Race' setting the electric motors provide an additional energy boost to assist the 500bhp petrol engine.

In its most economical mode the supercar produces less CO2 than a Toyota Prius.

Porsche's 918 Spyder will change the perception of 'green motoring'.

Plug-in hybrid uses two electric motors and a V8 petrol engine.

Spyder capable of 198mph and 78mpg, albeit not at the same time.

It is rumoured that 2,000 people have made 'non-binding expressions of interest' for the new Porsche supercar,
convincing the company to put it into production.
