Popular actress fined RM15,000 over forgery
KUALA LUMPUR: A popular actress has been fined RM15,000 for using a company’s document with a forged signature to open a bank account three years ago. Nasreen Ngasri, 27, who is better known as “Darling”, pleaded guilty to an alternative charge of using Nasridz Pictures Sdn Bhd’s “Director’s Circular Resolution” dated March 16, 2007, as genuine when she had reason to believe that the document was forged.
She committed the offence at RHB Bank Bhd’s premises in Jalan Tun Razak, Cheras, on Aug 16, 2007. Nasreen had on Feb 5 claimed trial to a similar charge with a higher penalty when she was originally charged at the Sessions Court. Pleading for leniency yesterday, her lawyer A. Kailesh said his client had been a director of Nasridz Pictures and equal shareholder with the complainant since 2003.
“The accused did not forge the document but only used it to open a bank account for Nasridz Pictures where both are directors and shareholders with 50% equity each,” he said. Kailesh said the actress, who is two months’ pregnant, had opened the bank account for the benefit of the company. He said the actress and the complainant had also signed a settlement agreement dated May 10 where both decided to solve all disputes, including the case.
“The complainant had gone to the police station to withdraw his report over this. The complainant had stated in his report that he wanted to withdraw the case as he had obtained RM150,000 via a bank cheque and did not want to pursue it further,” he said.
The complainant yesterday confirmed the settlement agreement in open court yesterday before Sessions Court judge Jagjit Singh. DPP Noor Aishah K.M. Abu Bakar urged the court to consider the element of dishonesty involved in the case. The judge fined her RM15,000 in default three months’ jail.
