AN EMPLOYEE of security specialist Certis Cisco appeared in court yesterday in connection with the theft of $2 million from the company.
Auxiliary police officer Tan Chee Wey, 41, is said to have stolen the cash with his colleague Stanley Ong Beng Hock, 28, at Certis Cisco Centre in Jalan Afifi in Paya Lebar at about noon on April 12.
The investigation is still ongoing.
Ong, who has not yet been charged, was arrested yesterday in Kuala Lumpur, in a joint operation with the Royal Malaysian Police.
Tan, who worked for the company for six years, was arrested here on Monday.
Certis Cisco said in an e-mail statement last night that it reported a case of theft to the police 'when a discrepancy was discovered through work procedures and processes we have put in place'.
'Following the charges, Tan Chee Wey will be terminated from Certis Cisco's service,' it added.
Tan is remanded at Bedok police division until Monday when he will appear in court again.
Replying to media queries, police spokesman Deputy Superintendent William Goh said the Singapore Police are currently working with their Malaysian counterparts to extradite Ong.
'Part of the stolen cash has also been recovered from the suspect,' he said.
DSP Goh added that good cooperation and coordination between the Malaysian and Singapore police led to the prompt arrest of the second suspect.
Certis Cisco operates the largest auxiliary police force in Singapore with over 3,000 trained officers.
It also handles money from ATMs, banks and more than 3,000 retail outlets as one of Singapore's largest private security firms. If convicted, Tan faces a jail term of up to seven years and a fine.
