<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->A POLICE officer allegedly accessed his office computer to get the details of two former girlfriends and the former husband of one of them without authority.
Sylvester Marian, 44, an inspector attached to Bedok police division, was also charged with corruptly receiving $5,000 from an offender for being lenient in his investigation.
Marian was in charge of the station's commercial crime squad when he allegedly received the bribe through a third party outside a pub in Odeon Katong, East Coast Road, in mid-2004.
He is also said to have given false information in a written statement to a Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau principal special investigator on Oct 19, 2006.
Marian claimed that he was not informed by anyone from the station that a complaint had been made about him taking money from Leong Weng Loong.
Between February and August 2005, Marian is accused of accessing the office computer on 10 occasions to get the addresses and criminal records of two former girlfriends and the former husband of one of them.
Marian, who has since been suspended from duty, was represented by Mr Surian Sidambaram.
He is out on $20,000 bail and his passport has been impounded.
A pre-trial conference is fixed for Jan 29.
Last year, a former Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) senior officer, Thong Sing Hock, 50, had his two-year sentence increased to 33 months for helping his Chinese national mistress enter Singapore on a fake identity.
Among the charges he pleaded guilty to was accessing ICA's computer system for personal purposes. ELENA CHONG
