A young driver who dozed off at the wheel and hit two pedestrians standing on the footpath was fined a total of $10,000 on Thursday.
Polytechnic student Koh Kwee Kiat, 20, was also banned from driving for five years after he admitted to two charges of causing death and injuring another in a road traffic accident.
The two pedestrians, both Bangladeshi workers, were waiting for their company transport along Jalan Toa Payoh at about 5.35pm on Jan 16, 2011, when they were hit by Koh's car.
The night before, Koh had spent the whole evening with friends till the next afternoon. He also played a few rounds of mahjong with his friends, and had only a few hours of rest before taking a friend home to Toa Payoh.
