Sympathy & nostalgia for stroke-stricken CST is one thing but let's call a spade a spade. It's a fact that Lina Chiam is no orator. However the bigger more pressing issue is that she is not cut out to be a politician esp. one in the opposition!

It could be a matter of trust.

CST claimed that he has been "played out" (dunno how true it is) twice by his ex-member of SDP and SDA which led him to form SPP no longer want to trust anyone. He also find it hard to recruit people for SPP and the existing ones are not experience enough. His wife is the only available choice to him as she has been following him closely in his walk about. However, this is a big mistake as she is not born to lead and be a politician.

Aunty Lina should pass la, accepting the NCMP seat will just make the SPP look bad. Only politicians who are dynamic and transformative can successfully use the NCMP platform to further their political ambitions, such as Sylvia Lim. Mrs Chiam is not a politician. She ran in the elections only because she wanted to take care of Potong Pasir residents and let her husband venture out to a GRC.

I agree she should not take up the NMP. She should take care of Mr Chiam. They deserve retirement after so many years of serving the people.

Personally, I prefer TJS to be an NCMP. He knows how the PAP machinery works even though he left the civil service 20 years ago. The MIW will be more wary of someone who knows how the system ticks.

Frankly Chiam has himself to blame for the disaster he brought about for PP. Unlike WP's LTK, Chiam did not have a formidable, winning team when he charged into Bishan-Toa Payoh. Even if he was in good health, it was a B team at best. Worse, he left his wife, an incompetent politician to defend PP. That she performed so credibly was due to sympathy votes. But a political party cannot be run on sympathy and nostalgia. As WP has demonstrated, only through having competent and formidable professionals can the PAP be successfully challenged. Chiam's recklessness in going after a GSR was a failure in strategy of enormous proportions.

Lina should decline the NCMP. Based on the percentage of OPP. votes, the next eligible group is NSP Marine Parade. Nicole Seah is best for the NCMP slot. While Ivan Yeo, Spencer Ng, etc may be older and more 'senior', they have no charisma and political flair, and should let Nicole be the next NCMP.

Nicole Seah may be pleasant and good to look at, but she sounds artificial, contrived. She is a fad. Goh Meng Seng comes out as more sincere and passionate, and more long lasting.

LTK of course is now intoxicated with power. He gambled and won hugely. He may want his own men or women to run for the presidency - may be gamble with Sylvia!
