IPOH - Perak's top cop has warned his men in blue that no preferential treatment will be given if they were caught using drugs.
Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan said they would be treated just like any drug addicts nabbed by police.
"They will be put through the wringer like any other suspects including being detained in the lock-up, investigated and charged in court," he said here yesterday.
He said this year, seven policemen from various departments had been nabbed for using drugs.
"Of the seven, two are officers," he said, adding that the trend of policemen in the state using drugs was on the rise.
Perak police, he said, was using a two-pronged approach to weed out policemen using drugs.
"One is where the supervising officers will be on the lookout for signs that his men are taking drugs and send them for urine tests. Another is random urine test conducted on policemen at all stations in the state."
"We are investigating as to why they are using drugs."
Earlier, Shukri witnessed the handing over of duties from state acting narcotics chief Superintendent Mat Tahir Kassim to Assistant Commissioner of Police Roslan Abd Wahid.
