Policemen and DOE staff charged with bribery

KEMAMAN: Two policemen and a Terengganu Department of Environment (DOE) staff were separately charged in the Sessions Court here with accepting bribes. According to the charge sheet, Lance Corp Abdul Jabar Jalil, 53, is charged with accepting a bribe of RM500 from a clerk of RBA Metal Sdn Bhd, Nor Hasni Maria Abd Rahim, as an inducement not to take action against the company.

Abdul Jabar, who was then attached with the Kemaman district police's driver's unit, was charged with committing the offence on Oct 13 last year between 1.30pm and 2pm at the company's office here. Meanwhile, a DOE driver, Mohd Nordin Adullah, 37, was charged with accepting a similar amount of bribe from the same person as an inducement not to take action against the company for carrying out open burning.

He was charged with committing the offence on Dec 17 last year at 12.45pm at the same place. Another policeman, Corporal Mohd Hazman Yusof, 51, was charged with accepting RM300 from Nor Hasni Maria Abd Rahim on behalf of RBA Metal Sdn Bhd managing director on Feb 25 this year at 2.15pm at the same place.

They pleaded not guilty to the charges. Prosecution is by Terengganu Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission prosecuting officer Wan Ahmad Nidzam Wan Omar. Abdul Jabar and Mohd Nordin were allowed a bail of RM5,000 in one surety each while Mohd Hazman was allowed a bail of RM2,000 in one surety. The court fixed Nov 10 for mention.
