Police warn public on use of sparklers
Posted: 19 September 2012 1552 hrs
SINGAPORE: With the mid-autumn festival around the corner, Police have reminded the public to be responsible in the way they use sparklers.
They said while it is legal to import and sell some types of sparklers in Singapore, users should follow the safety guidelines laid down by the manufacturer.
Police said they take a serious view of people setting off improvised explosive devices produced as sparklers.
They warned that such devices are potential fire hazards and cause noise pollution and undue alarm to the public.
Police said the blast effect from the explosion can injure someone and damage property.
Anyone caught setting off improvised explosive devices can be prosecuted and if convicted, can be jailed up to one year or fined up to S$5,000, or both.
