Police warn of bogus repairmen committing theft
Posted: 28 February 2012 1200 hrs
SINGAPORE: Police are investigating two cases of theft committed at some housing estates by men posing as repairmen.
In both cases, the two men had targeted elderly victims who were alone in their homes during the day.
They would claim to be repairmen requesting to check the kitchen or toilet for water leakages.
Subsequently, they would distract the victims before stealing their personal belongings such as wallets or purses.
Both suspects wore white polo t-shirts with blue pants, with unknown passes hung around their necks.
The first case occurred on February 23 at about 3.30pm at a unit located at Blk 64 Kallang Bahru.
The second occurred on February 24 at about 5pm at a unit located at Blk 47 Bendemeer Road.
Police are reminding people not to open doors to strangers.
They should not allow anyone who claims to be a repairman to enter the house without verifying his identity.
Residents should also not keep large sums of money or valuables in the house.
