Police nab molester

<!-- by line --> <!-- end by line --> POLICE have arrested a 54 year-old man who had masqueraded as a doctor and molested an 11 year-old girl on the pretext of conducting a medical examination. The man had approached his victim at the underpass of Bugis MRT Station last month. He claimed to be a doctor and asked the victim whether she was feeling well. When the victim replied that she had experienced some aches and pains on her body, he volunteered to conduct an examination on her.

He then led her to a secluded staircase at a nearby shopping centre and molested her. Although the identity of the suspect was not known, he was eventually caught. On Tuesday morning, while the police were conducting an ambush operation along Segar Road, they spotted a man who fitted the description of the suspect. He was arrested. Investigations revealed that the suspect may have outraged the modesty of other young victims using the same ruse.

The suspect will be charged on Wednesday morning for an offence of Outrage of Modesty under Section 354(2) of the Penal Code, Chapter 224.
If found guilty, he may be jailed up to five years or fined or caned, or with any combination of such punishments.

Ng Ban Keong is accused of molesting at a carpark staircase at Golden Landmark Shopping Centre at North Bridge Road on May 21. Ng, who was unrepresented, was remanded for a week at Central police station for further investigation. If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to five years and a fine but will not be caned as he is above 50.

<!-- end left side bar --> <!-- story content : start --> THE long arm of the law has caught up with a 53-year-old man who was charged on Wedneday with fresh counts of molesting five more girls as far back as 1994 until 2005. Ng Ban Keong was first brought to court a week ago for allegedly molesting an 11-year-old girl at the Golden Landmark shopping centre's carpark staircase on North Bridge Road on May 21. He had apparently claimed to be a doctor when he asked the victim if she was feeling well at the Bugis MRT Station underpass that morning.

He then led her to a secluded staircase nearby where he allegedly rubbed her private parts. At his second appearance in court on Wednesday, Goh is accused of having molested five girls, then aged between 10 and 12, at staircase landings of HDB apartment blocks in Jurong West and Clementi between July 1994 and September 2005. The prosecution sought another week's remand for Goh for further investigation. He will return to court on June 30.

A HUMAN resource manager, accused of molesting several girls between 1994 and May this year, on Friday faced a fresh charge of sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl. Ng Ban Keong is said to have made the girl perform oral sex on him at the Golden Landmark shopping centre carpark staircase on May 21. The 53-year-old has been charged with molesting the student at the same spot between 6.40am and 7.10am on the pretext of conducting a medical examination.

He also faces five other counts of molesting girls aged between 10 and 12 at staircase landings in Jurong West and Clementi between 1994 and 2005. Ng, who is represented by Mr Subhas Anandan, was remanded for psychiatric assessment. His next court date is July 23. If found guilty of sexual penetration of a minor, he can be jailed for up to 20 years and fined. Caning will not be imposed as he is above 50.
