Posted: 27 January 2012 2119 hrs

SINGAPORE: Police have nabbed two men and a woman for suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

The first case happened on Thursday at about noon.

Officers from Jurong Police Division arrested a 28-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman.

Initial investigation revealed that both suspects are debtor-turned-runners.

They are believed to have helped loanshark syndicates by opening bank accounts for them, as well as providing their Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards and Personal Identification Numbers (PIN).

The second case happened the same day at about 6.15pm.

A 51-year-old man in the vicinity of Orchard Road was found with loanshark-related paraphernalia on him.

The items included a mobile phone containing suspected debtors' records, a stack of bank transactions receipts and two ATM cards.

Investigation revealed that the suspect is a debtor-turned-runner and he is believed to have helped loansharking syndicates by performing ATM fund transactions.
