A FIVE hour operation by the Traffic Police in Tuas on Wednesday morning nabbed 19 heavy vehicles for exceeding the speed limit, said a police spokesman.
Traffic Police said they issued 2,200 summonses to heavy vehicle drivers in the first half of this year, up from 1,500 in the same period last year. That's an increase of nearly 50 per cent.
Their efforts have also paid off in reducing the number of accidents and fatalities.
Between January and June this year, there were 123 accidents involving prime movers, tipper trucks and trailers compared to 114 accidents during the same period last year.
