Police investigating man who lodged false report about fake cops

SINGAPORE - Police are investigating a man, 49, for lodging a false police report. The suspect alleged that two unknown men had impersonated police officers and checked on him.
According to a statement from the police, the report was lodged on Oct 29 at about 8.20pm at Woodlands East Neighbourhood Police Centre.
The man also alleged that the two persons fled from the scene before he could call the police to verify their identities.
Police said they conducted investigations to trace the two men, and with the help of officers from Jurong Police Division, it was eventually established that the alleged incident did not occur and the suspect had lodged a false police report.
Investigations against the man who lodged the false report are ongoing, said the police.
Commander of Jurong Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Wilson Lim warned that Police will take stern action against anyone giving false information to a public servant and thus expending police resources that could otherwise be put to better use, and lead to delayed responses to actual emergencies.
Anyone convicted of giving any information which he knows to be false to a public servant may be jailed for up to a year or fined up to $5,000, or both.
