ROME – A German couple who abandoned three young children in a pizzeria in northern Italy were found Thursday on the outskirts of the town, police said.
Alessandro Carmeli, who headed the investigation in the town of Aosta, said the two were in good condition and had been brought to police headquarters for questioning. Officials planned to give further details at a news conference later Thursday, he said by telephone.
The German couple and the children had dinner at a pizzeria late Sunday in Aosta. The two then went outside to smoke and never came back, abandoning the woman's children — a baby of about 6 months, a 2-year-old toddler, and a child no older than 6.
