SINGAPORE - Police have arrested three men and a woman, aged 21 to 37, on Wednesday for their involvement in loansharking activities in four separate cases.

In the first case, a 37-year-old man was arrested in the vicinity of Marine Parade on August 22 at about 1pm.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect was believed to be involved in more than 20 cases of loanshark harassment by splashing paint and scribbling loanshark-related graffiti in Jurong East, Bukit Panjang, Woodlands, Ang Mo Kio, Tampines and Bedok. Loanshark-related items, including cans of paint, marker pens, a mobile phone and plastic bags were found in the suspect's possession and seized for investigations.

In the second case, a 32-year-old man in the vicinity of Joo Chiat Road on August 22 at about 7pm. Investigations show that he had assisted loanshark syndicates by performing electronic fund transactions via Automated Teller Machines (ATMs).

In addition, the suspect has also been referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau for investigations into drug-related offences.

In the third case, a 21-year-old man was also arrested on August 22 in the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio Ave 9. Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect had assisted loansharks by checking on debtors' units.

Police received a call from a resident who spotted a woman behaving suspiciously in the vicinity of Rivervale Crescent. When police officers interviewed the woman, they found stacks of loanshark-related flyers were found in her possession. She was placed under arrest for assisting loansharks by distributing flyers offering loans.
