Police bust illegal gambling den

SINGAPORE: Police have busted an illegal gambling den operating under the guise of a commercial unit.
Six men aged between 40 and 63 were arrested for offences under the Common Gaming House Act.
Officers from Tanglin Police Division had acted on information received on illegal gambling activities allegedly taking place along Upper Paya Lebar Road.
They conducted discreet observations and established that an illegal gambling den was operating there under the guise of a commercial unit.
After further observation and information gathering, police carried out a four-hour operation which started on February 20 at about 7.00 pm.
Officers raided the unit and arrested six men.
Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects, aged 48, is believed to be involved in operating the illegal gambling den while the remaining suspects are suspected patrons.
Ten modified computers and cash amounting to about S$$5,054 were also seized as case exhibits.
Investigations against the suspects are on-going.
For illegal gaming in a common gaming house, they could be fined up to S$5,000 or jailed up to six months.
Any person found guilty of assisting to manage a place used as a common gaming house could be fined S$5,000 to S$50,000, and jailed up to three years.
