Posted: 09 February 2012 2050 hrs

SINGAPORE: Police busted an illegal gambling den and arrested 24 suspects in a five-hour operation which ended on Thursday morning.

Police raided a condominium unit located at Kovan Road at about 1.30am.

They also seized playing cards, chips and cash amounting to about S$3,640.

Preliminary investigations showed that the illegal gambling den's operator is a 53-year-old man who is assisted by a 39-year-old man, believed to be the dealer.

The remaining suspects, aged between 29 and 79 years old, are believed to be patrons of the gambling den.

Anyone who is convicted of operating an illegal gambling den could be fined up to S$50,000 and jailed up to three years.

While those guilty of patronising such a place could be fined up to $5,000 and/or jailed up to six months.
