Three men aged between 17 and 55 have been arrested by the police for their suspected involvement in three separate cases of loansharking activities.
In the first case, officers from the Jurong Police Division arrested a 32-year-old man on Dec 11 at about 5.35pm while conducting anti-crime patrol in the vicinity of Bukit Batok Street 23.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect is a debtor-turned-runner.
In the second case, a 55-year-old man was arrested on Dec 11 at about 6.40pm for his suspected involvement in loansharking activities. He was caught after police officers received a tip-off.
Both men are believed to have assisted loanshark syndicates by giving away their Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards and Personal Identification Numbers (PIN) to loanshark syndicates to facilitate their businesses and collecting ATM cards and PINs from other debtors to use them to perform ATM transactions for loanshark syndicates.
In the last case, Woodlands West NPC Crime Strike Force officers arrested a 17-year-old man while conducting an anti-crime patrol in the vicinity of Marsiling Drive.
The suspect is believed to have assisted the loanshark syndicates to carry out series of loansharking harassments at Bedok, Hougang, Sengkang East, Ang Mo Kio and Petir Road public housing estates by splashing paint at debtors' units and scrawling loanshark graffiti on the wall.
Various items such as ATM cards, name cards and handphones were seized by the police in all three cases.
All three suspects will be charged in court on Dec 13.
