The police have arrested 22 men and seven women for suspected involvement in loanshark activities in three separate arrests. They are aged between 16 and 64.
In the first arrest, following up on investigations into reported cases of loanshark activities, officers simultaneously raided areas such as Potong Pasir, Hougang, Jurong West and Bukit Batok in a 10-hour operation on Tuesday and Wednesday. Fourteen men and one woman, aged between 24 and 62 years old, were arrested.
They are believed to have opened bank accounts and gave away their Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards and Personal Identification Numbers (PIN) to loanshark syndicates to facilitate their unlicensed moneylending businesses. Several bank cards and transaction receipts were also seized from the suspects.
Another operation on Wednesday also led to the arrest of seven men and six women. They are suspected of committing the same offences.
