The police arrested 168 people over a period of five days in an anti-crime blitz that saw police officers fan out across Singapore.
During the operation, which started on April 3, police officers from the Central Police Division and Criminal Investigation Department raided illegal gambling dens in the Jalan Besar area and conducted checks at massage parlours and entertainment outlets in Marina Bay, South Bridge Road and Little India. The traffic police also set up road blocks to catch drink drivers.
After five days, 62 men and 106 women between the ages of 18 and 72 were arrested for offences ranging from unlawful employment to unlawful assembly, gambling and drink driving. They are now being investigated by the police.
Commander of Central Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Daniel Tan in a statement on Monday said the police will continue to clamp down on illegal activities.
