<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->THE Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) has suspended a confectionery factory after a case of contamination.
The Royals (Premium Cakes) factory at Bedok reported a chemical contamination of two ingredients used in the production of its cakes and pies yesterday.
The factory supplies items to The Royal Premium Cakes & Pies chain, which has six outlets.
A company spokesman said some workers detected an 'unusual smell' in some ingredients and production was stopped.
The cakes and pies already on sale at the chain's outlets were not affected, said the spokesman, but were taken off the shelves as a precautionary measure.
Only four outlets - at Upper East Coast Road, Tampines Mall, Lot One Shopping Mall in Choa Chu Kang and Novena Square - were opened for business yesterday. The other two - at Raffles Place and Tanjong Pagar - were closed.
The AVA has advised consumers who bought products from any of the six retail outlets to discard them. Those who have eaten the products and feel unwell or suffer from nausea should consult a doctor. The police and the AVA are investigating and the factory will remain closed until the AVA is certain the products are safe for consumption.
